Colombian Coffee is the finest in the world. But you had to pick cocaine…
cocaine is not an acomplishment, its not being the best at anything. But from the other comments im guessing its not the only questionable data you put in your chart.
Colombia has the number one coffee man, just saying.

You know its funny how my country the Czech Republic is good at beer drinkers. I just dont know how a country could be excited about that. But to be quite honest I think I would take beer drinkers any day over serial killers in the United States.

I find it interesting that Costa Rica is known for happiness. It is the only country that is good at an emotion. Every other country is either a product or a service.

I agree with Diana about the label for Colombia. It is not fair to label a country with negative connotation especially when they are also known for something that reflects positive trade like coffee. Yes, Columbia is fantastic at producing Cocaine but let us not forget Senior Juan Valdez!!!

Basically, the other side of economic freedom = little consumer rights and the Consumer Council is rubbish here!

Great stuff guys a minor suggestion though – with the tabs at the bottom that tell us what the colours mean, is it possible to be able to click on them and have only that statistic shown? It would be easier to read/examine.

The measure under which Costa Rica comes as number 1 (Happy Planet Index) is not really a measure of happiness exactly but a measure of happiness-versus-environmental-impact.
Anyway I’m sure Venezuela’s happiness numbers must have come down along with the oil-prices.

I find it VERY offensive to label a country for the negative facts rather than the positive things, Colombia has the largest number of birds species and frogs in the world, Colombia is the largest exporter of flowers to US and the second largest in the world after Holland. Colombia is the largest producer of coal in Latin America, 4th in the World; and the World’s largest producer of emeralds. 3rd Country in biodiversity. To hide all of the cultural and natural richness behind such an offensive number as the world largest cocaine producer is not fair. Also, the country and his people are making great afforts to change that numbers and the results can be seen in for example the ONU informs which projects Peru as the largest Cocaine producer in 2 years. So, let me ask you to please change that evil label, my voice and the one of 44 million colombians ask you to cahnge that, and the most important to change your mentality of our country, thanks in advance.
If you want to know a little more about the country watch the COMPLETE video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgW8Y7F8DN8 (COLOMBIA: Would you take the risk? in youtube)

Time to change your website to “ignoranceisbeautiful.net” and admit that you don’t actually care if the information you use for these posts is accurate or meaningful. Even a quick look at the data used here shows frequent mistakes and a stunning lack of important context. Mixing raw numbers versus per person data makes the “best” list not very interesting. The category that you decided to highlight for a country tells me much more about your biases and ignorance than I can learn about that particular country. Congrats on wasting your time and mine.

How is Belarus famous for unemployed women???? Belarus has the lowest ‘official’ unemployment rate in Europe, and it is true in reality! Belarus has the highest rate of educated women compared to some nations where mamasitas traditionally stay home and care for the family – Belarusian women do both, work professionally and care for family.

I wouldn’t be offended just because your country has something negative listed about it. I mean USA’s is serial killers, great. there are plenty of other things they could have picked. anyway just saying a country is the best at something doesn’t really make any sense anyway. I’d definitely like to know what kind of pseudo algorithm they used for picking these…

Ireland? has the best quality of life?… not anymore we don’t. More like we are now the best at sitting back and doing nothing while the government takes the piss out of us by taking our well earned money and giving it to the banks. A child born in Ireland owes the government 46,000eur BEFORE they take their first breath…not exactly the best quality of life if you ask me.

So the UK is shown as one, instead of Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales being individual statistics? *pouts* Ah well. Congratulations on a fine graphic, it appears that you have done quite a lot of work on it.

And as a matter of curiousity, what font is it that you used for the labels?

Oh, how marvelous; my homeland boasts of car thefts, my current residence of serial killers, and my scheduled semester abroad location of robberies. >_<
Perhaps I'd be better suited majoring in Criminal Psychology for my apparent knack at showing preference for criminally active countries. =/

    Posted October 15, 2010 at 9:42 pm | Permalink

Haha, I found the serial killer aspect of the United States of America rather amusing, and I have lived in said country all my life. It’s just so… well, random, I guess, and funny in a dark way. I’ve had a little prior reading upon the subject of psychology, and have run across estimations ranging from 50 to 200 as to the number of serial killers active in the country. By “active” I do not mean currently killing, but rather not caught, dead or “retired”.

Side note: Serial killers and mass murderers are not the same thing; the former has a down period between kills, and mass murderers are those who kill four or more at one time with no period in between. I suppose that one could be both if they both killed repetitively and en masse, but one does not necessarily equal another.

I wonder how Dexter (a crime drama in the United States set in Miami, Florida that revolves around a protagonist serial killer) fans would react to this statistic? Interestingly, Dexter does not show the earmark characteristics of most serial killers, first and foremost of which: narcissism. But I’m going to stop now as I have a tendency to ramble and if I continue any farther it will only get worse.

And don´t forget that it’s the countryies like USA and other big countries that buy the cocaine, Please stop being so ignorant and posting such offensive things on the internet. its because of people like you that the world has such a bad image of Colombia.
