Been getting a ton of requests for ‘how to’s and guides for creating decent visualizations and information designs. Made me think: maybe I could do some workshops in this area. I like developing ideas and working with people. Could be fun!

Design duo Tyler Lang and Elsa Chaves are Always With Honor, an Portland-based design team with a specialty in beautifully simple information displays and iconography.
I first got turned on to / by their work when I spotted this awesome poster. It visualizes the many domains within design. Somewhat awesomely.
I’ve long been an admirer of London-based data artist, Stefanie Posavec. So, when I started working on the Information Is Beautiful book, she was the first person I sought out for collaboration. By happy coincidence she lived around the corner from me.
New York-based designer Mike Deal has a great project going visualizing The Beatles.

I’ve been doing a few interviews to promote my book, The Visual Miscellaneum, and a question keeps coming up. What makes good information design?
I’m really loving this guy’s visualization style. And the esoteric subjects too. I’ve got a bunch of esoteria visualized in my book. Sadly, for me, I think Michael does a better job.
I’ve been playing with Google Insights. It’s a great toy. It measures ‘search intensity’. The number of searches being made for a certain term.
Off the back of the recent timeline of global media scare stories, I got curious about what searches actually look like.
For example, the search “violent video games” reveals a very distinct pattern.
