Designer!

Designer at InformationIsBeautiful.net

Love infographics and data visualisations? I mean, really love them. Want to explore, innovate and develop this arm of your skillset. And work a whole sea of dazzling projects across every kind of subject and every kind of media?

We’re looking for a designer to join project InformationIsBeautiful. An all-rounder – happy to work up hand-drawn scamps, detailed static infographics, interactive designs, wall-sized visualisations – all the stuff we love doing here.

Commercially, you’ll be working for some of the biggest companies in the world. As well as using your powers to benefit organisations like the UN and charitable foundations worldwide.

• Demonstrable interest in infographics & visualisation i.e. some existing or past portfolio work
• Exceptional illustrator skills
• Great eye for detail and perfection (i.e. even tiny mis-alignments and microscopically bad curves upset you)
• Data brain – good for scanning numbers and grokking data
• Kind of mind that relishes the intricacy and pain-staking joy of hand-crafting a beautiful dataviz.

Here, we don’t believe visualisation is a design. It’s about story-telling and designing understanding. So you have to be ready to actively research stories, ideas and data in order to better visualise them.

Of course there’ll be a load of design work – working with David at every stage of the process – from concept to sketch to schematic to artworking to final.
So you’ll need to be an all-rounder, happy to contribute at every level. Sometimes assisting. Sometimes leading. From support jobs (artworking, illustration) to creative concepting (visual sketches & approaches), layout and typography and graphic design.

Naturally, you’ll be designing your own infographics and bringing ideas and cool approaches to the table.

• Full time (4 days a week)
• Based in London – mostly in-house but with some flexitime and work-from-home opportunities.
• Opportunities for commercial side-projects

We welcome applications from juniors and middle-weights.
(We’re not entirely sure how we’re going to structure)

Deadline: 23rd May / We’ll contact people: week of 1st June / Job starts: June

email: jobsarebeautiful@gmail.com with a paragraph about yourself and portfoilio or links to online work.

Thank you!
